New Orleans/Tammany Trace March 3-4 Planning

Bike Trip planned for March 3 and 4th, 2018:

Louisiana: Brace for impact –   Slow Bicycle Society is headed your way !

Saturday: Drive to New Orleans from Eastern Shore for an 11am “Eat the Big Easy” Bike Tour start.  4-hour guided bike and eating tour around downtown New Orleans.  Cost of 4-hour tour including Creole food, drinks and waiter tips at various restaurants around town is $84 (It’s  $89 if you don’t have a bike and need to use one of their cruisers).  Folks need to be able to eat pork, seafood, gluten, nuts;  any special dietary needs must be advised in advance.  Not included in the tour fee is any tip you feel the bike tour guide deserves at the end. Bike company owner has advised that we will be very, very full after a day of eating .

We should be done by 3-4pm and then drive to Mandeville, Louisiana which is about a 45 minute drive east.  Motel to reserve room in Mandeville LA is Comfort Suites; we may be able to get a group discount rate depending on how many rooms are booked. Going rate is around $75-80/night for Saturday March 3rd which includes continental breakfast in the morning.   We can check in and then grab some live music at a local brewery around town Saturday night. There are also local bed and breakfast accomodations  in Mandeville such as Marvilla (www.marvilla.com) or de la Bleau (www.delableau.com) as another option.

Sunday: Meet up after breakfast to ride Tammany Trace through Abita Springs and Covington stopping along the way for lunch and maybe a beer or two at local breweries or ice cream at local creameries.   Tammany Trace is a 31-mile route so riders can choose their own riding distance preference on Sunday before driving back to Eastern Shore. If you plan on just a day-trip on Sunday only, feel  free to drive over early to Mandeville to our meet-up point. Maybe we can stop at the Abita Springs Mystery House Museum too ($3 entry fee).

I would like to see if there is any interest in this itinerary so that I can book the bike tour and maybe get a room rate discount depending on the number of riders we get. Deadline to let me know if you plan on joining our Slow Bicycle Society crew is Monday February 19th. My email address for questions and  to let me know you are planning on coming: rcstromme@att.net.
