Tammany Trace Ride Saturday, March 4, 2017
The Tammany Trace is in Louisiana. It is a very flat, multi-use Rail-Trail in the “Northshore” area, all north of New Orleans. It runs from Slidell, through Mandeville and Abita Springs, and ends in Covington.
The 31-mile rail trail runs along the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana. We will meet up at 10:00 AM at the Covington Trailhead at the corner of New Hampshire and East Lockwood Streets in Covington. This is approximately 2 1/2 hours from Fairhope. We will meander 13 miles through Abita Springs to Mandeville where we’ll have lunch. We’ll return back to Covington making it 26 miles round trip.
More ambitious riders may opt to continue on through Lacombe to Slidell (another 19.5 miles) before returning to Covington (62 miles round trip).
Others may decide to spend the night in the area and ride the 2nd part of the trail on Sunday.
