June and July 2016 – Summer Rides

Look for other “spur-of-the-moment” postings this summer.  Perhaps a Saturday Brookley Field Route in Mobile or a Magnolia Springs Ride?  Many of us will be traveling during theses summer months, so look for different faces, have fun and ride safely!

 

marrietta johnson statue   Sunday, June 5th     LONG RIDE with options:  Fairhope Bluff to Grand Hotel and BEYOND!   5:00 p.m.

Beginning at the Marietta Johnson statue on the Fairhope Bluff, we will ride south along the Eastern Shore Trail toward Point Clear’s Grand Hotel then BEYOND… all the way to Mullet Point Park, if you like. Feel free to join us at the Bluff (starting at 5:00) or at the Grand Hotel overflow parking, east of the main gate, across Hwy 98 (5:30).  It’s about 3 miles to the hotel from the bluff and another 5 miles to Mullet Point, so you can do the full 16 miles, or out-and-back from Bluff to Hotel (6 miles) or Hotel to Mullet Point (10 miles).

 Sunday, June 12th    Mullet Point to Pelican Point,    5:00 p.m.   (later start for summer)

Begins at Mullet Point Park on Baldwin County Road #1, which is 5 miles south of the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL. We ride on County Road #1, southeast to Pelican Point at Weeks Bay.  We’ll take a rest break, then return to Mullet Point Park. 10 miles roundtrip. Very flat.  Takes about an hour and a half to complete at our slow, social pace

 

bamahenge   Sunday, June 19th    New Route!   4:00 p.m.    –  Bamahenge? Dinosours? Italianate fountain? Lady of the Lake? Beach? Beautiful marina? Bushwackers?  All in one ride? Yep. Sunday, June 19th Fathers Day Ride begins at 4pm with meet-up in Elberta. Take County Route 98 eight miles east of downtown Foley and turn south on County Road 95 for five miles. Turn Right onto Fish Trap Road (aka County Road W42) and turn left in one half mile at the Barber Marina sign. Head south toward the end of the road and find the first parking lot on the left beyond the fountain.   Ride is approximately 9-10 miles along country roadways with many stops for all the sights and photo opportunities. Dinner/drinks will be a short 10-minute drive away (or 4-mile bike ride away) from our meet-up point; Dinner/drinks at Pirate’s Cove (6606 County Road 95) with affordable drinks and food. Dinner/drinks direction from marina- head out of Barber Marina and turn right at County Road 95 and head south for 3-4 miles and bear left onto first gravel road with a stop sign.

Backcountry trail logo   Sunday, June 26th    Orange Beach BackCountry Trails,  5:00 

This ride in Orange Beach along the BackCountry Trails. The group will start from the trailhead at the Sportsplex in Orange Beach. This is located just off Canal Road, just east of the Toll Bridge. Continue through the parking lot, past the big soccer fields. You’ll see an arched entryway to the trails. Sunday, July 24th    Mullet Point to Grand Hotel: Begins at 5:00 p.m. from the Mullet Point Park. This route rides north along the Eastern Shore Trail to the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, loops by the Confederate Rest Cemetery, then back to Mullet Point Park, which is 5 miles south of Grand Hotel, just of scenic Hwy 98, on County Road 1.  Route is 11 miles roundtrip. Very flat and suitable for riders of all abilities.

Sunday, July 31st       Mullet Point to Weeks Bay Bridge –    5:00 p.m.    Meet at Mullet Point Park in Point Clear.  We will ride “out and back” along both the Eastern Shore Trail to reach the Weeks Bay Bridge.  Some hills.  About 11 miles total.
