As of 3-22-12: We will meet on Saturday morning, March 24th, at the Starbucks and Another Broken Egg parking area in Grayton Beach. Hoping for a “9 a.m.’ish” start in Grayton Beach, riding east toward Rosemary Beach for lunch – 10 miles. We will consider the parking situation in that area and adjust if necessary. All will be weather dependent too, so stay tuned if 9 a.m. is wet.
SHUTTLE: We will meet at 7:00 a.m. in the same Starbucks location for any who would like to stage your car in Rosemary Beach, so that you only do a one-way (10 mile) ride on Saturday. We can run an early shuttle, then return, grab a little breakfast or coffee and be ready to ride at 9:00 a.m. with the group. Even if you don’t run the 7 a.m. shuttle, you can catch a ride back with me and pick up your car.
- We are expecting 20 or more, so feel free to ride in small groups for safety and ease of movement and lunching. We’ll encourage all to ride at their own pace, with a designated sweeper in the back.
- Bring a lock for you bikes, for stops at shops, bars, restaurants, etc.
- Wear sunscreen!
- We’ll make Sunday plans (biking or boating or both!) – when we’re together in Florida.
From OLD Post:
The Slow Bicycle Society on the Eastern Shore is planning a weekend trip to South Walton County Florida for a day of bicycling on Saturday, March 24, 2012. There are 10 plus miles of bicycling paths and trails along the Hwy 30-A corridor in the area between Grayton Beach State Park (info here) and the community of Seaside, FL. Additional information and maps of the bicycling paths and trails can be found HERE.
If you’d like to join us, feel free to come for the day, or stay for the weekend. Some Slow Bicyclists have already made lodging reservations at Grayton Beach State Park, where there are cabins and camp sites. There are many other lodging alternatives in the area including condos and hotels. See the official tourism website for this area for other ideas and activities.
Details about this group ride will follow later on this website, including the meeting time and place on Saturday the 24th and a possible kayaking group activity on Sunday the 25th. Feel free to leave comments on this page, or email us at SlowBicycleSocietyES@gmail.com if you have other questions.
Let us know if you’ve visited this area before and have recommendations or suggestions for our group trip.
